1. General information
The main goal is to introduce the student to the relationship between the legal system -mainly the regulations on land use planning and environment- and the geographic reality. In this way, it is intended to have a positive impact on the professional performance of future graduates in Geography and SpatialPlanning.
These approaches and goals are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda of United Nations (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/ ), specifically 6, 9 and 11 to 16. In such a way that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement.
2. Learning results
- To know and value the connection of Geography with other branches of knowledge, especially with Law.
- Know, interpret and know how to apply the rules, both sectorial and procedural, that affect the territory in the European Union, Spain and Aragon.
- Identify and understand the basic fundamentals of law governing Geography, fundamentally in relation to spatial planning and the environment.
- Apply theoretical knowledge with a critical spirit to geographical analysis, being able to resolve conflicts and offer solutions based on law.
- Know and correctly use basic legal terminology, both in oral and written expression.
- Know how to elaborate and write an academic paper on topics related to the subject.
- To be able to actively participate in a debate or doctrinal discussion on the contents of the subject.
3. Syllabus
I.- BASIC NOTIONS ABOUT LAW AND ITS SOURCES
Lesson 1.- Introduction. Fundamental legal concepts.
Lesson 2.- The legal system of sources.
Lesson 3.- The administrative organization: structure and competences. Approach to administrative actions.
II.- SPATIAL PLANNING LAW
Lesson 4.- Introduction to Spatial Planning Law. Techniques and instruments for action on the territory.
Lesson 5.- Introduction to Urban Law.
III.- RIGHT TO THE ENVIRONMENT.
Lesson 6.- Evolution and principles of environmental law.
Lesson 7.- Regulation, limitation and control techniques.
4. Academic activities
1. Master classes: 45 hours
Oral presentations based on the presentation of content by a teacher.
2. Problems and cases: 15 hours
Classroom case analysis with active student participation.
3. Study and personal work: 75 hours
Preparation of individual and practical works.
5. Assessment system
I CALL FOR PROPOSALS
A) Continuous assessment. It will be applied to students who express their willingness to participate at the beginning of the course, and may exclude from this system those students who do not carry out the proposed activities. The activities are as follows: - Active and regular participation in face-to-face academic activities, both theoretical and practical: 5% - Learning portfolios: 10 %
In the classroom sessions, students will be asked to carry out theoretical-practical exercises or other learning activities related to the object of the subject of study.
- Elaboration of a research work in teams or individually: 25%
Topics will be provided at the beginning of the year. The evaluation will focus on the quantity, density and quality of the contents and the formal presentation ofthe contents.
- Completion of a final test: 60% This test will consist of 5 theoretical-practical questions in which the student will be able to use the legal texts.
B) Global assessment test: students may choose to be evaluated by means of a global test that will consist of the following parts:
- Evaluation of objective knowledge by means of a multiple-choice test: 15%
- Theoretical-practical test in which legal texts may be used: 60% This test will consist of 5 theoretical-practical questions.
- Presentation of an individual research paper: 25%
In all the activities, in addition to the student's goal knowledge, the clarity of written expression, its correctness, the understanding of legal terms, the ability to be concise and summarise, as well as the ability to compare ideas and abstract legal concepts, and to give practical solutions, will be assessed.
II CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Global assessment test. It will consist of the three parts indicated in the global evaluation test of the 1st Call and with the same criteria.
Students who have participated with good performance in the continuous evaluation system of the I Call may choose to take only the evaluation tests that are pending.
